Director’s Update for Families 3.27.20

Hello, this is Kurt Dronebarger with the White County Board of Education. As you may know, Governor Bill Lee has closed schools state-wide through April 24th due to the Coronavirus health crisis. With that in mind, I want to inform you of our plans to feed and educate students over the course of this unprecedented school closure.

First of all, the health of your family is our main concern. Please follow the health guidelines that are being issued to keep your family and those around you safe. We ask that you continue to use good hygiene practices and stay at least 6 feet away from others during the length of this crisis.

Next, we do not have all the answers to your questions at this time. What I can tell you is that we are working closely with local, state, and federal officials and that we are currently scheduled to return to school on April 27th.

Please note that school meals will continue to be served at each school location throughout the school closure. These meals are served to your car on Mondays and Thursdays only from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Free meals are available for any student and no prior notice is required. Simply show up, drive-thru and we will give you the food.

Also, we do have a plan to educate students in earnest beginning Monday, April 6th. You will receive a call like this one from your child’s school on Friday, April 3rd, with detailed instructions about your child’s continuing education. Each school will have specific information, so if you have children in multiple schools, then you will receive more than one call. All of this information will also be posted on the school board website at www.whitescoschools.net.

In summary:

Next week, March 30th - April 3rd, we will serve meals and provide limited academics.

Next Friday, April 3rd, you will receive information with specific school details about learning plans.

Monday, April 6th, all educators will be available to assist your child with learning on a regular basis. Paper packets of school work will be available on Mondays at the schools and also handed out during the Monday/ Thursday meal distributions.

You will get weekly updates like this one each Friday hereafter and you will find a transcript of each message on our district website.

Finally, we at White County Schools are going to do the best we can during this time and that is all we can ask of you. However, if your child does not work academically, at least a little, it may have an impact that will haunt them for years to come. We are going to provide work, so let us know how we can help your child to complete it.

Thank you so much for your time and attention. Please stay healthy, stay smart, and we will call you again next Friday.
