Masks, Summer School, and VIP

posted Apr 30, 2021, 1:36 PM by Kurt Dronebarger
There have been several questions regarding the application of the Governor's Executive Order No. 80 to school districts. This removal of authority allowing county mayors to issue a mask mandate does not impact a school board's ability to decide whether or not to implement a mask mandate. Under Tennessee Code Annotated § 49-2-203, local boards of education have the authority to “manage and control all public schools established or that may be established under its jurisdiction.” This matter may be addressed at the next school board meeting on May 13th and school ends on May 21st. It will be the Director's recommendation to the school board that masks remain in place through the last day of school.

Summer School

The deadline to enroll in summer school for students in grades K-8 has been extended until Monday, May 3rd. Families are urged to register at their student’s school or online at www.whitecoschools.net. The summer school program will be held June 7th - July 2nd, from 8:00 am - 3:00 pm daily. Transportation and meals will be provided. For more information, please contact your child's school or visit the district website.

Virtual Instruction Program (VIP)
White County Schools will not offer a Virtual Instruction Program during the 2021-22 school year. We have been proud to offer this option to families during this difficult season, but our plan is for all students to experience in-person learning in the coming school year. Students currently participating in the VIP program will not have to re-enroll. The school district will automatically place these students in their zoned school for the next school year. If you have any questions surrounding VIP, you may call Mr. Shaun Floyd at 931-836-2229.
