Updated Post - July 23: We're pleased to share some positive news regarding our 21st Century Afterschool Programs! We've been notified that federal funding for 21st Century programs has been released. This is wonderful news for our school community and the continued support of enriching after-school activities for our students. At this time, we do not have specific details on the exact level of funding we will receive or when the funds will be made available to our district. We are actively working with the relevant agencies to gather this information as quickly as possible. However, based on this promising development, we are tentatively planning for our 21st Century Afterschool Programs to begin on Monday, August 18th, at all six of our elementary schools. WCMS will not have programming this year. Please note that this date and other programming details are tentative and subject to change based on the finalization of funding details, but we will continue to keep you informed.
Original Post - July 15: Due to a nationwide hold on federal funding for 21st Century Learning Centers (21st CCLC), White County schools unfortunately won't be able to offer after-school programs when the school year begins. We are currently uncertain if this funding will be released later in the school year. We recognize this creates difficulties for many families and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. Please know we're closely monitoring the situation and will share updates as soon as we have them.
To improve student grades, behavior, and attendance through challenging after-school programming.
The 21st CCLC program meets Monday-Thursday from 3:00-5:30 pm. The program begins with a free, healthy snack provided by the school nutrition department. If the school is dismissed early for inclement weather, the after-school program will not meet.
Performance Goal 1: All students will reach high academic standards at a minimum attaining proficiency or better in reading/language arts and mathematics.
Performance Goal 2: All students will exhibit positive behavior changes that support academic and social growth.
Performance Goal 3: The percentage of students who are chronically absent from school will decrease.
Performance Goal 4: Family engagement will be embedded in the entirety of the program.
Throughout the year special activities are planned to promote family involvement. Parents are encouraged to show support of the program and their children by attending these special events. Family members are also invited to speak with their school's site coordinator about additional opportunities for involvement in the program.
Various organizations and businesses have agreed to serve as partners in the 21st CCLC program. These partners enhance the program by sharing special skills or expertise.
